Balancing Busy Lives

“My friend Nicki and I always say that we dislike that four-letter word: busy! Life is just so busy.” We can all find ourselves juggling many things and wearing numerous hats. We must do this or that; we need to be here or there. The day never ends. Sometimes the enemy turns busyness into a distraction, and we lose focus on what Jesus has planned for us. We feel worried, troubled, and anxious.

Jesus gently reminds Martha that these are just ordinary matters. Don’t be stressed. One of my favorite sayings is “Just Breathe.” Slow down. I find that I’m a better person and handle life more effectively when I strive to commit to Jesus first and maintain a healthy balance in all I do. It’s ok to set boundaries. Martha’s sister Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and hear His word (Luke 10:39). She’s not being selfish, and neither are we when we choose to spend time with Jesus. That is where we are refreshed and renewed spiritually and emotionally. Then, when we face a chaotic or challenging day, we can handle it and be at peace with what we did or did not accomplish.

Do you find yourself using the word busy often? Are you trying to eliminate things that take away time spent with Jesus? I’d love to hear your thoughts on how we can better manage our time and schedules, so Jesus stays first.

And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. (Luke 10:41) NKJV
